The Most Important Part Of A Diet Is Your Workout Playlist.

I think we can all agree that the most important part of any diet/exercise regime is the workout playlist. I mean, the wrong song can literally RUIN YOUR DIET. So, as I re-focus on my health by eating better and working out more, my primary concern is my workout playlist. Currently, it looks like this:

Bangarang – Skrillex

Let’s Have A Kiki – Scissor Sisters

Run The World (Girls) – Beyonce

Pretty Girl Rock – Keri Hilson

Funky Cold Medina – Tone Loc

Whip My Hair – Willow Smith

We No Speak Americano – Yolanda Be Cool

Jump – Kris Kros

Roar – Katy Perry

MotownPhilly – Boyz II Men

Work B**ch – Britney Spears

The Breaks – Kurtis Blow

Bom Bom – Sam and the Womp

Hey Ya- OutKast

Now, I’m pretty happy with this playlist….for now, but I’m pretty sure after a couple weeks, it’s going to get old. So, I’m turning to you, my darling lifehackers, for suggestions. What’s your favorite workout songs?

  1. My playlist is almost always why I actually get out for a run — I totally bribe myself with embarrassing pop music that I can’t listen to in any forum other than headphones where no one is close enough to me to hear them.

Right now, I’m working a rotation of Avicii, David Guetta, Icona Pop, and Heads Will Roll by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

  2. Some bits…

The Phoenix – Fall Out Boy (there’s a lot of good workout songs by Fall Out Boy)
    Radioactive – Imagine Dragons
    Invincible – Pat Benatar
Sweet Child O’ Mine – Guns N’ Roses
    Poker Face – Lady Gaga

  3. I could not agree more! Working out is impossible without some great music. I’m a runner, so listening to music sets my pace:

Alice in Chains-Would; Korn-Falling Away from Me; Alex Clare-Too Close, Florence + The Machine-Only if for a Night, Strangeness and Charm, and No Light, No Light; U2-Vertigo, ORIGA-Inner Universe; Godsmack-Moon Baby, Voodoo; Kings of Leon-Sex on Fire; 30 Seconds from Mars-The Kill

    Way to work it!

  4. Welllll….all the playlists on my iPod are named after Python things (Mrs. Ratbag, I Don’t Like Span, Dead Parrot….etc) Fresh Fruit is the workout playlist and decorum forbids me from listing the 155 songs loaded there, but here are a few…
    Frankenstein – Edgar Winter
    Slow Ride – Foghat
    American Idiot – Green Day
    HotnCold – Katy Perry
    Backwater – Meat Puppets
Addicted to Love – Robert Palmer
    you get the idea….

  5. I might be weird but I love upbeat Motown/disco for working out- a nice bit of Earth, Wind and Fire or James Brown. Also, Bombs over Baghdad by Outkast will have you sprinting like a machine.

  6. My workout playlist is nice and long so I can shuffle and listen to something different every time, and even with that it changes, but I do have some that never leave the list:

    Boom-POD
    More-Usher
    Can’t be Stopped-Body Head Bangerz
    Monster-Skillet
    Step Up-Cheetah Girls

The last one definitely seems out of place, but there are more pop-ish songs on the list with it xP

  8. Clarity – Zedd
    American Girl – Bonnie McKee
    Wake Me Up – Avicii
    And…All the Single Ladies
If you’re feeling particularly badass, you could go with the much degrading, but super fun, Can’t Believe It – Flo Rida.
    Happy Sweating!

    • All of these are great suggestions! Especially All the Single Ladies, even though I’m married that song gets me going!

  9. Actually, my favorite work out music is Metallica. The heavy beats and guitar shredding pump me up and keep me moving fast. Although, I break it up and sometimes play Rush and the last workout I actually listened to Journey. I don’t create a playlist, just play albums.

    • Nice! Captain Thoughtful is a MASSIVE Metallica fan and likes to listen to them when he’s working out too. I haven’t tried it yet though.

  10. I didn’t know most of those songs… I mean, of course I know Tone Loc, Kris Kross, and Boyz II Men… but the others are mysterious. Also, I don’t work out with music. Most of the time I am by myself, but when I am on the treadmill at the gym and I make eye contact with someone I can tell they find it unsettling that they see no evidence of music…

    Reply
    • Well you should check them out! :)

And yes, I think if I made eye contact with you at the gym and saw you weren’t listening to music, I would totally give you the side eye. ;)

  13. I agree… I have been wanting to run but I can’t get my song list right. If the music isn’t right, then I just can’t run.

    Uhhh first world problems.

  14. Justin Timberlake – TKO
Dangerous – Kreashawn (or whatever the hell his name is :p)
And lord knows who sings it, but that Inner Ninja song! It’s lasted for ages on my workout playlist – I NEED it to survive the high intensity zone!

  16. You already have Motown Philly. I can’t help you any more than that.

Although “I Wanna Be Sedated” always gets me pumped when I clean the house (you know, once every two years).

    • Haha- I thought you might like that. :)

Good suggestion, because that’s pretty much how I feel after I work out.
